A two stage post this week: first, revisit your KQ from the last post. Assess it through the Enterprise lens:
and ask yourself on which side of this line it lies:
As you deem fit, either edit for strength or justify as strong. Second, please report on the moment of knowledge that you discovered on today's ramblings, its source, and the new KQ that it inspired in you. This is all due Wednesday by 9:30 pm.
1. Does our desire to win eventually overcome our knowledge that continuing on the this path will lead to pain and suffering? about knowledge- check open- check general- enough real life- could be applied knowledge question- yes
2. At what point is your knowledge that creating a knowledge question has to be done overcome by your primal instinct of hunger. (I really wanted to go to lunch instead of writing this)
1. How does our enjoyment of an activity affect our knowledge of the passing time? about knowledge- yes open- it could vary for each person so guess that would make it pretty open general- well I am not specifying to a specific moment or activity, which would make this a farily general question application to real life- It can apply to real life, since it applies to the moment that caused it, but it also deals with ways of knowing such as the senses and emotion knowledge question- yes
2. To what extent do we lose or retain the qualities that our society deems childish and how do they affect our perception and understanding of both the world around us and the people with whom we interact?
1. Under what circumstances does someone's knowledge of time influence planning? This is a knowledge question because it is questioning a knower's knowledge of something that can be applied to all of the Areas of Knowledge and to real life situations. The question is open and general, therefore it is a knowledge question. Time is something universal, so a knower's knowledge of time can be applied to all situations.
2. To what degree can memory impact a knower's potential knowledge? Earlier today I was thinking about how our soccer team won the victory bell the other day, then I started to think about what it will take for our team to win on Wednesday and ring that bell again!
1.) To what extent do certain factors of a situation affect our knowledge of that situation after it has occurred? This is a knowledge question because it can be applied to a large number of instances including any AOK, and is questioning how our knowledge is affected when we think about something, therefore it is by extent questioning how knowledge itself works.
2.) When does a common truth within a community have the ability to falsify memories of an individual within that community? I was walking by the driveway and thought about how a lot of students and faculty talk about how much 'the long driveway' meant/means to them. I never had strong feelings about the driveway or my experience with it, but the more I hear about it, the more I wonder if I did have a reaction to the driveway originally.
1) To what extent can emotions affect or even overthrow our knowledge of time? This is an open and general question about knowledge. Emotions and knowledge of time are not specific. It can apply to real life since emotion is one of the ways that people actually gain knowledge.
2) To what degree can time affect our individual knowledge? I saw a photo of Mary D. Burnham School when I am walking by the Red room. It looks very different from our current Stoneleigh-Burnham School. While looking at the old and unfamiliar photo, I was wondering how time can change things, basically, our knowledge.
To what extent does desire affect our perception of corruption? This is a knowledge question, but could be edited so as to not be obviously about the fact that I really wanted a donut while writing this. So: to what extent does desire affect perception? This is general, open, and about knowledge, and could be applied to multiple real life situations.
To what extent does a knower's perspective affect the accomplishments of others? Interestingly, this relates to two moments of knowledge; first, to a different opinion a classmate had on the President than my own, and second, to a conversation about the accomplishments of an alumna and her CAS project.
1. At what point can we say that we "know enough" and do not have to continue learning? about knowledge- yes open- yes general- I think so real life- It could be applied knowledge question- Yes (I hope so)
2. Some other classmates were talking about how they were cold, and I realized that I was cold too. Question: To what extent is our perception of ourselves influenced by the things others say about themselves?
1. How much can the knowledge gained through memory be altered by the emotions felt while this memory was being created? It is about knowledge because both memory and emotions are ways of knowing and can affect each other. It is open-ended, and cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. It is not specific to any one situation.
2. I was walking by the World War I history display and it made me think of all the amputees and the "Phantom Limb" phenomena. It was interesting how they still felt their limbs sometimes although reason said they were no long there, hence: At what point does one way of knowing gain acceptable validity over another? Can one way of knowing be completely put aside?
1. "In what ways can sense-perception cause a knower to diverge from a universally accepted truth?" This question is about knowledge, because it asks about sense-perception as a means of knowing. It is also a general and open question, because possible answers could be explored through multiple lenses and opinions could diverge wildly. It can be applied to specific areas of knowledge, but it also probes at the nature of sense-perception and how it defines our thoughts and our personal truths. 2. My second moment of knowledge occurred when I walked into the dorm room and discovered that it was frigid and it smelled bad because somebody had opened the window to air out their smelly cleats. From this, I came up with the knowledge question: "At what point can sense-perception overpower our ability to function rationally?"
1. Knowledge Question: To what extent our desire of something is no longer suppressed by the knowledge in our memory? This is not real knowledge question because it is limited in the situation of memory, which only considers one part of how people know. It is a question that is open and about knowledge, but I should change it to: To what extent can desire effect the way of knowing?
2. Movement of Knowledge: The second I walked out from Jeser, and felt the wind and smelled burn fire. Thus, I thought about winter. Knowledge question: At what point can one way of knowing effect on other ways of knowing? Physical sensibility of burn fire and wind brought my memory of winter, which effected the way of knowing.
Edited: Moment of Knowledge: I am procrastinating my homework right now. Knowledge Question: Does the knowledge of the general consensus on the moral right-ness of our actions affect our perception of what is right and wrong? My moment of knowledge was realizing how much respect people instantly have for PB as I walked past the debate room, so: How does our interpretation of someone's demeanor affect the way we know them as a person?
1) Moment of knowledge: I am listening to music. Knowledge question: To what extent can what we hear change our perception of the world around us?
This is not a knowledge question because there are many studies that show that sound can affect a person's mood and perception. Therefore, this question is not about knowledge even though it is open and general. A better question would be: How does sense perception affect our daily outlook compared to other ways of knowing?
2) Knowledge question: How can a person's past experiences and personal beliefs affect their value of an object?
I was walking around the school and saw the case with Stoneleigh rings in it. That made me think about how those rings meant something and had a lot of value to Stoneleigh, yet they would not have the same value to another school. My moment of knowledge was that different objects mean different things to people. That is how I came up with this knowledge question.
1) Moment of Knowledge: I am afraid to post a moment of knowledge because I am afraid of sounding unintelligent Konwledge Question: How does the knowledge of others intelligence of the world around them prevent oneself from exploring and finding knowledge within themselves?
I think that this is a strong knowledge question because it inquires a question about knowledge itself and how the thinker can gain or loose knowledge. Although we do know about peer pressure and how other environmental aspects change someones attitude and how they interact with the world, we do not know how exactly it changes their knowledge. When this question is asked with the implications that we all have knowledge inside us that we need to find, we can see that the question is asking us how does other knowledge prevent us from finding new knowledge.
2) What ways of knowing/knowledge held by a person influence them to see beauty differently than someone else; and due to this, how do we as a society reach a general consistence on what is beautiful?
When we were walking around, I had my camera in my hand and was taking video shots of what I considered beautiful on campus. It made me wonder how did the world define beauty, and how different everyone's takes of beauty was. This is how I came up with my knowledge question.
